Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal

The plan aims to provide evidence-based solutions in the Emergency Department (ED) of the United Hospital to prevent the communication gap in the interdisciplinary team. Effective communication among the interdisciplinary team will help gather information and flow and establish rapport, which help to achieve patient outcomes (Kumar et al., 2019).

Objectives

The plan is to bridge the gap in interdisciplinary teams, which is accomplished through communication enhancement workshops. These workshops are based on active listening, engagement, and patient satisfaction regarding ED visits. The plan’s success will minimize the communication gap among healthcare professionals, reduce medical errors, and achieve positive patient outcomes.

Questions and Predictions

  1. Where will the communication workshop be arranged, and who will lead this workshop?

The workshops will be arranged within the hospital setting in meeting rooms. The experienced clinicians, educators, and nurses will lead this work along with the practical exercise of these workshops.

  1. How do these workshops affect patient outcomes?

  1. How do these workshops affect patient outcomes?

Trust and satisfaction between the patient and healthcare professional are built via effective communication. There will be fewer patient visit and stay, and patient outcomes will be achieved.

  1. Will these workshops increase the work of healthcare providers?

These workshops will be arranged within the hospital and during the duty hours of nurses to reduce the healthcare worker’s time for training.

Change Theories and Leadership Strategies

The Lippitt change theory helps to overcome the existing problem in the unit. According to this change theory, awareness, communication establishment, identification, objectives, and achievement of change through a strategy. The change is to organize the communication workshop within the healthcare setting and its awareness among the healthcare setting through meetings once a week. The health educator will explain the positive impact of the change on the nurses and how it will affect their workflow. Moreover, effective communication workshops enhance patient and healthcare-provider interaction, improving patient satisfaction (Barrow et al., 2022).

NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 3 Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal

The change in the hospital required the collaboration and inclusion of healthcare professionals from different departments. Interdisciplinary team coordination and communication will improve the working flow of the team. Thus, democratic leadership styles of the head nurse impact team performance, which includes the suggestion and inclusion of every member of the team and appreciation of their value and participation in making change. As a result, team members will become more motivated to give high-quality work results (Andrysyah et al., 2020). Hence, the Lippitt change theory and the democratic style of the head nurse will help in implementing the change in ED at United Hospital to achieve patient and organisational outcomes.

Team Collaboration Strategy

The primary responsibilities and actions of the interdisciplinary team will be accordingly; the health educator, twice a week, will collaborate with healthcare providers to enhance effective communication skills such as active listening and engagement in the meeting room. On the other hand, the head nurse will be responsible for ensuring that staff duty assignments are adjusted accordingly so that each healthcare professional participates in the training sessions. The IT team and logistics department would ensure that the workshop logistics, such as computers, projectors, screens, information material, and workshop rooms, are adequately available and working appropriately.

NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 3 Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal

Shared decision-making is one of the effective collaborative strategies that can be used to implement the change proposal. According to the literature, shared goals and plans within the team make stronger teams through efficient communication and collaboration. This strategy results in positive outcomes for achieving the set goals (Zasa & Buganza, 2022). This collaboration is relevant to the team’s needs within our organisation; as the head nurse said, a communication gap in the team may lead to errors and risks to patient safety. Thus, this approach bridges the communication gap, reduces
